Derek J. Burney is a Director of Enablence Technologies Inc. and operates a cattle and horse ranch in the Colorado mountains west of Denver.

Mr. Burney was a member of the Microsoft Corporation Executive Team from 2004 – 2020, having served most recently as Corporate Vice President/Distinguished Evangelist. In this role Mr. Burney led industry technical engagements within the Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) group - a team of over 700 developers worldwide who code with Microsoft’s biggest customers to support them in achieving success using the latest cloud services. He also served as CVP Skype Strategic Relations and Solutions (2013-2014) and CVP Engineering (2004 – 2013) where he led the worldwide development teams for Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, Access, and Lync (now Teams). From 2000 – 2004, Mr. Burney was President and CEO of Corel Corporation, where he built on the strong following of CorelDRAW and WordPerfect with over 50 million users and worked closely with the Board of Directors to restructure the company for profitability. This position culminated a fourteen year career with Corel, including Executive Vice President of Software Development and Chief Technology Officer from 1999 – 2000.

Mr. Burney was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and was educated at Carleton University, where he received a Bachelor of Computer Science with Highest Honours in 1993. Mr. Burney has 4 children and lives on his ranch in Golden, CO.
